Is Aston Martin looking for a replacement for Newey as team principal?

According to rumours, after a poor start to the season and several controversial decisions, Aston Martin has begun searching for a potential replacement for team principal Adrian Newey.

It has also been reported that, for now, he will retain all his other responsibilities and privileges. Even if a new team principal is appointed, he is expected to focus entirely on the technical side.

Some have been dissatisfied with Newey’s statement that “Honda is not ready to compete in Formula 1 this year,” while others have been disappointed with the British engineer’s decisions in his first experience as a team principal. As a result, the team’s owners have started looking for a new leader.

Several names have been mentioned, including former Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner. Aston Martin’s current crisis will undoubtedly take time to resolve.

The team’s issues initially surfaced during the “shakedown” days in Barcelona at the end of January. Although they arrived in Catalonia for the final two days, they were only able to run on the last day.

Even before the official winter tests began, it became apparent that the Honda engine was not performing satisfactorily. Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Newey officially stated that they would only be able to complete a few laps in the race, citing severe vibrations in the car.

The race in Melbourne did not end after just a few laps for the team — Alonso retired after 21 laps due to the same vibration issue, while Stroll had to stop with 13 laps remaining because of mechanical problems.

In Shanghai, Stroll retired on lap 9 due to a battery issue, while Alonso managed to endure the vibrations for 32 laps before retiring. However, both drivers were able to complete the 19-lap sprint race.

After two races, Aston Martin, along with Cadillac, is one of the two teams yet to score any points, but due to their lack of race finishes, they sit at the bottom of the standings.
