Mercedes will continue to provide the Safety Car this season
It has now been confirmed that, unlike recently, Aston Martin will not be the supplier of the Safety Car for Formula 1.
Mercedes announced today that it will be the sole supplier of safety and medical cars for the 2026 season across Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, and all support series, as well as for the pre-season tests in Bahrain.
In the new season, Mercedes will celebrate 30 years of involvement as the Safety Car provider in Formula 1. Over this period, Mercedes-AMG has utilised 13 distinct safety cars and eight medical cars in Formula 1.
Since 2022, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has served as the Safety Car, while the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ has been used as the Medical Car. Overall, Mercedes-AMG will supply three safety cars and two medical cars this season, with two vehicles on track at each race weekend. The company’s specialists handle operation and technical support.
Bernd Mayländer will persist in his position as the Safety Car driver. The upcoming Australian Grand Prix will mark his 500th race in this role.
Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport: “Safety is one of the core values of our brand and our vehicles. That is why we have been supplying the official Safety and Medical Cars for Formula 1 since 1996.
From the 2026 season onwards, the FIA’s official cars will once again carry the three-pointed star at all Formula 1 events. In this way, we continue to make an active contribution to safety in the pinnacle of motorsport.
For Mercedes-AMG, Formula 1 is not only a sporting platform but also an environment in which the speed, reliability, and safety of our cars are demonstrated under extreme conditions”.
